Chamber of Commerce Recognizes

Ava Area Chamber of Commerce and Ava High School recognized Students of the Month at the monthly luncheon meeting of the Chamber on Tuesday. The meeting was hosted by the Ava Veterans of Foreign Wars.

This month’s honored students are Allana Engelhardt and John Spurlock. Following are biographies of the students as read by Principal David Rickner as he presented the students:

Allana Engelhardt is the daughter of Ric and Lisa Engelhardt. She has attended Ava since kindergarten. While at the high school she has been active in Anchor Club; Pep Club; FCCLA, currently serving as president; FFA, participating in State Choir for two years; Future Teachers of America, serving as state vice-president for one year; cheerleading for three years; Dance Team for one year, and Trend for three years.

After high school Allana plans to attend OTC for her general education in nursing and then transfer to St. John’s School of Nursing to become an OBGYN.

John Spurlock is the son of Randy and Renee Spurlock. He has attended Ava since the 8th grade.

While in Ava he has been active in Student Council, being the president this year, Trend, Pep Club, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, golf, Key Club, and Spanish Club.

He has also attended most of the Chamber of Commerce meetings for the past two years as the high school representative.

Earlier this year, John was awarded the Will McFarlin Youth Award at the Chamber of Commerce annual Membership Banquet
His future plans are to attend the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and to eventually become a high school history teacher.
