NHS Pee Wee Tourney

Feb 28, 2008

The annual Pee Wee Basketball Tournament sponsored by Ava High School National Honor Society will begin Saturday, March 8, with games continuing March 10, March 11, and March 17. While the tournament for the 3rd and 4th grade teams will run four days (March 8, 10, 11 and 17), the tournament for the 5th and 6th grade teams will run three days (March 8, 10, and 11).

To cut down on students having many school night games, the tournament will begin Saturday, March 8. During the week, the third and fourth grade games will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the middle school gym. The fifth and sixth grade games will be played in the high school gym beginning at 6 p.m. Since they will play games simultaneously in the middle school and high school gyms, check brackets for starting times and location. Brackets will be distributed later, and they will be printed in the Douglas County Herald.

Twenty-five teams from two grade divisions -- grades 3 and 4 and grades 5 through 6 -- will compete for first place trophies.

Admission will be $2.50 for adults and $1 for school age children/students. District passes, senior citizen passes and student activity passes will not be honored at this event because all proceeds from admissions will go toward the National Honor Society’s Tracy Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Each year, NHS awards $2,000 in scholarships honoring Tracy Murphy. In the past 20 years, $41,000 in scholarships has been awarded to deserving NHS members.
