Ava Will Host Class 1 Basketball

Feb 21, 2008

Basketball season ended this week for Ava teams, but those fans who still haven’t seen enough action have a platter full coming up during the next week.

Again this year, Ava is the host site for the Class 1, District 3 basketball tournament that runs Feb. 23-29.
Play begins Saturday afternoon, at 2 p.m., with three first-round games in girls’ action.

First-round action for the boys begins on Monday, with games at 4:30, 6, and 7:30 p.m.

Semifinals for the girls will be held on Tuesday, and the boys’ semifinals will be played on Thursday night.
Championship games for the girls and boys will be played on Friday, Feb. 29.

Chadwick High School is the tournament host and Dana Comstock is tournament manager this year. This is the second year Ava has been the host site for the tournament.

The Bradleyville girls and Chadwick boys are the top-ranked teams in the tournament and each has a first-round bye.

Saturday’s schedule has No. 4 Dora playing Hurley (5) at 2 p.m.; No. 2 Chadwick playing Lutie (7) at 3:30; and Bakersfield (3) vs. Niangua (6) at 5 o’clock.

In boys’ play on Monday, Niangua (4) will play Hurley (5) at 4:30; Dora (2) will face Lutie (7) at 6 p.m.; and Bakersfield (3) will play Bradleyville (6) at 7:30.

Admission for these games is set by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and no local passes will be honored.
