Lady Bears Beat

Feb 14, 2008

The Ava Lady Bears defeated Blue Eye on the home court last Thursday night, 40-34, then traveled to Houston on Friday night and defeated the Lady Tigers, 39-30.

The Houston game had been postponed twice previously, once because of snow and again because of a power outage in Houston related to thunderstorms.

The Lady Bears will travel to Cabool tonight (Thursday) and the varsity girls will go to Salem Friday night to complete the regular season. On Saturday, the girls will begin district play at Branson.

Coach Mark Wendler was successful in making Blue Eye play his game Thursday night, which allowed the Ava girls to outscore a much bigger Lady Bulldogs team.

Katie Nelson led Ava with 14 points and Jasmine Miler added 12. Ava led 23-18 at the half.

Others scoring for Ava were Janine Parker 4, Danielle Cheyney 4, Caitlin Elliott 3, and Kayla Dooms 3.

Dooms also had four assists and six rebounds for Ava.
Kristy Fredrick had 14 points for Blue Eye.

On Friday night at Houston, Cheyney hit three baskets from 3-point range and was 4-for-4 at the line to lead all scorers with 15 points. Nelson was 4-for-7 at the line and finished the game with 10 points.

Rounding out the Ava scoring were Miller 8, Elliott 2, Chelsea Doom 2, Kayla Dooms 1 and Kendra Dering 1.

Holly Thomas had 12 points for Houston which trailed Ava 19-7 at halftime.
