The Ava Chess Team had another great weekend as they traveled to Seymour to compete in the 4th annual South Central Missouri Chess Tournament on Jan. 26. Seniors Bradley and Brandon Mills led the high school team to a first place team finish in the last major tournament before state action begins. Bradley won the first place individual trophy with an impressive 5-0 finish and Brandon came home with the second place trophy, also winning 5 of 5 games. The winning high school team rounded out with AHS sophomore Stephen Wallace who won three games and John Holland who also won three games. Shelagh Orcutt received a 12th place medal for her three wins in the middle school division and Davyn Orcutt earned the 8th place trophy for his three wins in the elementary division.
