Changes Made In Ava’s Afterschool Bears Den Program

Bears Den, the Ava R-1 afterschool program, has made some changes for this year.

For the past five years, Bears Den has been funded by federal grant money. The grant ended last year and a new grant was written but not awarded. The district will continue the afterschool program but with some changes.

Bears Den will serve students in PK-6th grade only. The program now ends at 5:30 p.m., so all students must be picked up by that time. And, there will be no bus transportation home.

To help fund the program, fees have been increased. Students on reduced or free lunches will be charged $2 per night and students on full priced lunches will be $3 per night. Fees must be paid weekly.

The program will be held in the elementary building. Parents will pick-up their children through the back entrance on 10th Avenue any time between 3:45 – 5:30 p.m.

A simple supper will be served at 3:30. Students will have recess time, homework help, and enrichment classes each night.

Tutoring for middle school and high school students will be offered from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and will be starting at a later date.

For more details on middle school or high school tutoring call the building principal or classroom teacher.
