School Board Holds Closed Session May 27

The Ava R-I School Board met in closed session Friday, May 27, and accord­ing to information provided by BJ Sterling, secretary to Dr. Nancy Lawler, superintendent of Ava R-I Schools, the board voted to approve a transporta­tion settlement adden­dum, which is to be offered to all mem­bers of the Ava Bus Route Owners Association.

As the Herald went to press on Wednesday, and after phone calls to administrators to attain information about the final settlement agreement adopted by the board, no response was forthcoming.

However, below is the report sent to the Herald from BJ Sterling.  The email cited the following information about the closed session meeting:

Please find the below action that was voted on during Executive Session on Friday, May 27, 2016 by the Ava R-I Board of Education.  This was the only action item that was voted upon, except opening and closing the meeting.

Motion made by Mrs Aborn and seconded by Mr Strong to approve the transportation settlement addendum and authorized it to be offered to all members of the Ava Bus Route Owners Association.  Upon execution of addendum by all parties, settlement payments will be made on June 1, 2016 OR extended with each contract offered to the contracted driver, with the option to renew upon expiration of existing contract and addendum.   Motion carried with Spurlock, Aborn, Tredway, Strong, Ellison, Johnson for and Wallace against.

The next monthly meeting of the board is slated for Thursday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m., meetings are held in the board room on the north side of the Decker Library.

A budget study session has also been scheduled for Monday, June 13, and that meeting starts at 4:00 p.m.
