Charles Verdon Jones

Charles Verdon Jones, of Ava, passed away suddenly at his home on May 7, 2016. He was 89 years old.

Charles was born to Charles Earl and Mary Olivia (Frazier) Jones at Akron, Colo., on Feb. 17, 1927. Charles entered the Army in 1945 serving two years, including service in Austria and Germany.

He married Georgia Lee Melton on June 11, 1950 at Mountain View, Mo., and together they raised five children. They were married for 60 years.

Charles and Georgia lived in Brush, Colo., for over 20 years and he ran his own business, Charlie Jones Custom Grinding, from 1969 to 1979, then retired and moved to Ava, Mo., raising cattle on his farm at Vera Cruz.

Charles is survived by three sons, Charles William (Sherry) Jones of Brush, Colo., Rodney Verdon Jones and Steven Earl Jones, Ava, Mo.; one daughter, Marylin Rose Malone (Steve) of Fort Morgan, Colo.; one brother, Richard J. (Evelyn) Jones of Akron, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Charles J. Jones, Windsor, Colo., Christina Slivkanch, Evans, Colo., Yvette Rowe, Nelson Bay, New South Wales, John P. Jones, Portland, Ore., Derek Malone and Landon Malone, Fort Morgan, Colo., Desirae McKee, Ava, Mo.; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters, his wife Georgia, and daughter Cheryl Diane Jones.

At his request, no services are scheduled and his ashes will be placed with Georgia’s at Winona, Mo.

Cremation services for Charles are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo.
