Local Republican Caucus Held Last Week In Ava

The local Republicans held a caucus last Saturday morning at the courthouse in Ava. The caucus elected five Donald Trump delegates and one uncommitted to represent Douglas County.

The Douglas County delegation is to attend and select three national delegates at the District Caucus in Popular Bluff on April 30. They will also attend the Republican State Convention to elect 25 more national delegates in Branson on May 21.

Donald Trump took the majority of votes in Douglas County during the Presidential Preference Election. Due to mistrust of “establishment” Republicans, the local caucus is concerned about electing national delegates who would switch their vote from Donald Trump or Ted Cruz to an establishment candidate on successive rounds of balloting during the Republican National Convention.

Many Douglas County voters are disillusioned with the Republican National Party (RNC) because after the voters gave Republicans the House and Senate the elected candidates failed to fight for the defunding of Obamacare, stopping illegal immigration, defunding Planned Parenthood, and cutting the budget. Consequently, the Douglas County group will attend the Republican meetings with the resolve to seek out and select “non-establishment” delegates to go to the National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, July 18-21.
