Jewell Johnson

Jewell  Johnson, 97 years, 10 months, and 25 days old, passed to Heaven on March 25, 2016 at her home with her family by her side.

Jewell was born April 30, 1918 in Arden, Mo., to Daniel and Hattie (Garrett) Newton. She graduated from Ava High School in 1936.

Jewell’s first job after high school was with the Douglas County Extension Office.

She was a member of the Spring Creek Church.

Jewell and Rev. Tom Johnson were united in marriage on Dec. 1, 1939, at Ozark, Mo. They were blessed with two sons.

Jewell was a devoted wife, who was always by her husband’s side during his many years of ministry.

Jewell was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.  She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Jewell was preceded by her parents, her husband in 2013, three brothers, Carl Newton, Sidney Newton and Luna Newton.

Jewell is survived by her sons and their spouses, Larry and Shirley Johnson, Ava, Mo., and Lowell and Jo Johnson, Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and Kim Johnson, Ava, Mo., Brad and Caryl Johnson, Ozark, Mo., and Romy and Warner Roaseau, Ozark, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Reba Ross, Kansas City, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Newton, Boise, Idaho; and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Jewell were Wednesday, March 30, at 2 p.m., in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Chapel, Ava, Mo., with burial in the Spring Creek Cemetery.  Visitation was from 1 p.m. to service time in the funeral home.  Officiating were Pastor Oren Alcorn and the Rev. Freeda Holt.  Memorials may be made to the Spring Creek Cemetery.
