The Snoop 2.25.2015

Congratulations to Coach Sanders and the Ava Lady Bears who pulled off a major upset victory over Mtn. View-Liberty last Saturday in the first round of district play. Liberty had just defeated the Ava girls by 20 points at home in SCA play on Feb. 4, and it would have been easy to give up and let the season end on Saturday.

The girls were playing Willow Springs in the district semifinals on Wednesday night, hoping to earn a shot at the district title on Saturday. The girls also played Willow Springs just last week at home, and only lost by single digits, so with the momentum in their favor, the Ava Lady Bears could pull off yet another upset and play for the district title on Saturday night.

Congratulations also to the Bradleyville Eagles and Lady Eagles, both of which are playing for the Class 1, District 4 title tonight (Thursday) at College of the Ozarks. The Bradleyville boys defeated Hurley in the semifinals game on Monday and will face School of the Ozarks (23-3) at 7:30 tonight.

The Bradleyville Lady Eagles (21-5) defeated School of the Ozarks in the semifinals on Monday and will face Hurley in their championship game at 6 o’clock. Earlier this year Hurley defeated Bradleyville for a share of the Mark Twain Conference title, then Bradleyville’s girls beat Hurley in the Mark Twain Conference Tournament for the tournament trophy.

The Snoop has a special interest in the Bradleyville teams this year because granddaughter, Emily, is a senior member of the Lady Eagles team.

With Bradleyville High School celebrating Senior Night last Thursday, the same night as the Ava Lady Bears’ Senior Night, I was compelled to go to Bradleyville. It was hard to miss the recognition for Ava’s girls, but I do hope they understand.

Nevertheless, I appreciate Dana Dry standing in for me and taking pictures, and I also must give recognition to Renee Stillings and Brandy Harvill who were willing participants in helping me out of a tough situation.

I received a phone call from a lady Wednesday morning who is concerned about the litter along Highway 14 east of Ava.

This individual says she drives to Ava several days a week from the Dora area and is saddened by the amount of trash along the road. She says Ava’s “Treasure of the Ozarks” image is being marred by the litter.

I suggested to her that perhaps some groups or organizations might consider adopting sections of that highway and do routine trash pickup. The Adopt-A-Highway program is coordinated by MoDOT.
