Mental Health Training Program

Douglas County CHART, in association with Community Partnership of the Ozarks, presented to the public a free Youth Mental Health First Aid Training on Feb. 23 . Participants represented various sectors of the Ava community, such as law enforcement, education, mental health counseling, youth ministry, and others. The Youth Mental Health First Aid training is designed to educate adults who regularly engage with adolescents on how they may help a youth experiencing a mental health crisis. The 8-hour course covered topics including the potential risks for young people developing a mental illness, how to recognize signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses, how to assess for self-harm and suicide, and what to do when you encounter someone in crisis. Pictured here are presenters Amber Allen and Rikki Barton discussing relevant mental health issues facing young people today.
