Historical Society Meets Feb. 15 At County Museum

The Douglas County Historical and Genealogical Society held its monthly meeting Monday, Feb.  15, at the Museum.

Sally, the president, called the meeting to order.   Sharon read the minutes and gave the treasurer’s report and a motion was made they both be approved.

Sharon gave a report on the summer   Journal   and at this time it will tell about the reorganization of the Douglas County Schools.   There will be a small history of Skyline, Dora and Plainview’s first years. There are a couple of family histories that will also be in it.

The display for the month of March will be on food preserving and dating some of the things used.

Sally brought several quilt blocks that were finished and it was decided that the lilac ones will be for our quilt raffle next fall at the quilt show.

We have had someone offer to come put our sorghum mill together, so that will be a welcome sight.

We then discussed a new research book on Christian County and we decided to order it for our research room.

We then discussed some research that is being done on the History of Hammond Mill and we were told that they are planning on reopening it.

A report was given on what has been done to the property donated and this will be an on-going process.

After a general discussion of what needs to be done J. D. made a motion to adjourn and Pat seconded.

The next meeting will be March 21 and everyone is invited.
