Homemade Products To Help Save Money

By: Mindy Johnson

It’s a bit crazy as to why I am starting this article out with this topic and how it relates to the Homemade Product To Help Save Money, but I know it is sure to get a laugh.

Scripture clearly states in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. I read these holy words just the other day for devotion.

Even though I know this scripture is to be understood in a more literal sense, I began to get lost in the words, and after some much serious meditation, I started giggling inside as my thoughts wandered off to the next task at hand. Like a play on words, my devotion and thoughts inner mingled. I was still thinking about my devotion and the changing of seasons, when out of nowhere, a part of my mind began thinking about the process of getting ready for church – the next task at hand. You know, the usual, shower and shave combination. Somehow I was stuck with the lingering notion that I would be grateful for summer’s end and cooler temperatures. Not because I dislike warmer weather and prefer cooler, actually it’s just the opposite. More so, as I would have less worry about freshly shaved, smooth as silk legs in a dress at church. Crazy, I know. Just as scripture reads, I know there is a reason for the activity of shaving…to make my husband happy whenever he brushes up against me and to help with this article.

Shaving is a process that not many like to do, even though, it’s not hard, just a little time consuming. For me, it’s because I despise using shaving cream that is harsh on my delicate, porcelain skin. My Homemade Product To Help Save Money this week is going to make a difference.

Homemade Shave Cream

¼ cup olive or coconut oil

2 to 3 Tablespoons of Cocoa Butter

¼ cup Aloe gel or honey

2 tsp. baking soda

¼ cup liquid Castille soap

Vitamin E to preserve

Instructions: melt the oil and cocoa butter in a double boiler until just melted. Remove from heat and add other ingredients. Whisk or blend well for several minutes. Transfer to jar or container to store. Check while it is cooling to make sure it doesn’t start to separate. If it does, shake or mix well to re-incorporate. It lasts up to two months.

This recipe should be used more for winter as it provides extra moisturizing. It makes a rich, creamy lather and works really well. It is also better for men’s faces due to it’s gentle nature.
