Rome Bridge Project Is Officially Under Way

The Rome Bridge replacement project officially got under way Monday morning as Pace Construction was on site with heavy equipment ready to begin moving dirt. To mark the beginning of the work, representatives of MoDOT, the Douglas County Commission, and Great River Engineering stand on the old steel bridge (above) with shovels in hand. Pictured from left are Jeremy Crudgington and Willie Johnson, MoDOT; Presiding Commissioner Lance Stillings and associate commissioners Leon Potter and Craig Cunningham; and Shannon Shanks, with Great River Engineering. The new bridge, that will replace the 100-year-old steel bridge, will move the road to the east. The historic steel bridge will be demolished. The project will cost approximately $900,000 and is being funded by Missouri Department of Transportation BRO (bridge replacement) money, through an agreement negotiated more than two years ago by former presiding commissioner Larry Pueppke.
