Wright Co. Retired Teachers and All Personnel Met April 21

Those in attendance: Karen Sinning, Jimmie Marler, Virginia Serghides, Sue Durden, Janet Atchison, Gail Lawson, Vicki Stewart, Annabelle Tinsley, Ruby Ely, Bonnie Maxwell, Greta Webb, Louise Murr, Ruth Peebles, Elaine Duey, Nancy Smith, Paulette Stewart, and Wilma Hutsell. Nancy led the pledge; Ruby gave the devotion; and Virginia read the minutes. Gail made a motion to accept. Janet seconded. All in favor. Sue Durden read treasurer’s report with a balance of $197.42. Nancy Smith made a motion to accept. Vicki Stewart seconded. All in favor. Karen Sinning, President, reminded everyone to bring items for the Wright Co. Children’s Home and candy for the Assisted Living residents to meetings. The Auction for the Children’s Home will be on Saturday, September 19, at the Norwood School Multi-Purpose Room. Mark your calendars. Plans for the funds from the Auction will be used to build a maintenance/ storage building. The Region 10 meeting will be in Republic, Mo. on October 16, Friday, at 9:00 a.m. Our unit will need to donate one basket for the silent auction. Nomination for the Distinguished Retiree was made for Karen Sinning. Jimmie Marler made the motion and Nancy Smith seconded. Motion carried. A report from the State was given: All retired teachers had turned in their volunteer Community Service Hours; they are valued at $22.55/ hr. so $12,409,948 in volunteer time was donated by retired teachers in Mo. in 2014. A donation to the Wright Co. Children’s Home was made in memory of Ruth Bradshaw. The meeting was turned over to Dr. Jimmie Marler who gave a demonstration on scratch art. He let the retired teachers try their hand at doing a scratch art. Our next meeting will be May 19, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at the Country Living/ Assisted Living facility. Speakers will be Jim Kreider and Barbara Self from the State Retired Teachers’ Association. There will be time for Question and Answers.
