Ava High School Track Teams Compete at Fair Grove

The Ava track teams traveled to Fair Grove on Thursday, April 13.  Fair Grove will be the host of this year’s Class 3 district championships, which will be held May 16.
After a brief 10 minute torrential downpour at the beginning, the meet proceeded with 23 schools in attendance.
The Ava Lady Bears took second overall, placing only behind the Strafford Lady Indians by a single point. Strafford had 72 points to Ava’s 71.
One Lady Bear took first place honors and that was Maranda Yost in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 7 inches.
There were no Lady Bears that took second place.
Earning third place medals and points were:  Senior Megan Cooper in the high jump with a jump of 4’4”, freshman Cleo Stafford in the triple jump with a 15’5” leap; and junior Jordyn Wilson with a discus throw of 91 feet, 1 inch.
The Lady Bears took no fourth places.
In 5th place:  The 4×800 team ran a total of 11:48. Team members are Megan Cooper, Kayla Cooper, Bailey Ray and Kim Copeland.  Cleo Stafford got 5th also in the triple jump with a 29’7. In the discus, Maranda Yost threw an even 90 feet.
Earning 6th place points for the Lady Bears were:  Cleo Stafford in the 3000-meter hurdles with  a time of 102.31; the 4×200  team of Megan Cooper, Sandra Buff, Kathrin Buff, and Hailey Herrell with a time of 2:08.3; and the 4×400 team of Megan Cooper, Makayla Diel, Darci Ray and Kim Copeland with a time of 5:18.63.  Jessica Yost had a jump of 4’0” in the high jump.
Earning 7th place points were:  Bailey Ray in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:26. In the 100 meter hurdles, Cleo Stafford had a time of 20.96; and Jordyn Wilson got 7th in the shot put with a throw of 27’7”.
In 8th place were junior Hailey Herrell in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.12 seconds.  In the 3200-meter run Kayla Cooper got a new season personal best with a time of 14:53.
The Ava boys placed 6th overall with 60 points.  Strafford won the meet with 149 points.
Taking first place honors was junior Paul Porter in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.97 seconds.
There were no second place finishes for Ava.
In 3rd place were: Logan Sicilia in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18; and in the 1600 meters, Caleb Stillings ran a time of 5:05.
Also in third place was the 4×800 team of Logan Sicilia, Caleb Stillings, Drew Adams and Paul Porter with a time of 9:15.
In the pole vault, freshman Connor Moran took third with a vault of 10 feet.
There were no 4th place points for the Ava Bears.
In 5th:  Kane Thompson ran the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.54; and Caleb Stillings took 5th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:28.
In 6th place and earning points was:  Drew Adams in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.
The 4×400 team of Drew Adams, Logan Sicilia, Paul Porter and Josh Gilles placed 6th with a time of 3:57.
Junior Cody Johnson recorded a 41’4” throw in the shot put.
In 7th place was Bryan Withers with a distance of 17’9” in the long jump.
In 8th place was Logan Sicilia with a time of 5:24 in the 1600 meters.  In the 300 meter hurdles, Bryan Withers ran a 46:99; and the 4×100 team of Cody Johnson, Colton Overcast, Paul Porter and Kaid Sizemore ran a time of 50.63.
The coed throwers relay consisting of Jordyn Wilson, Maranda Yost, Cody Johnson, and Kane Thompson took 2nd place and earned medals, but no team points for their relay were awarded.
