Hi from Goodhope General Baptist Church. We had a wonderful day in God’s house.
Our Sunday school class was opened in prayer by Darlean Davis. Our Senior adult class studied out of II Corinthians 1:23-24 – concern for joy, II Corinthians 2:1-8 – concern victory. We had a very good discussion and was led by Bro. Jerry Hawkins.
We were dismissed to go to sanctuary – I (Sue) went around shaking hands with those coming in – I’m always at piano when handshaking takes place. It was good to see those back that have been on vacation and some were still gone. Our attendance was 78. We had a very good spirit in our midst.
After a very good opening song everyone was welcomed by Bro. Lance and congregation welcomed each other. Bro. Lance read announcements and took prayer requests.
Please keep the Dale Ross family in your prayers as he passed away Tuesday morning.
It’s always a joy to watch children do the penny march. They march around with smiles and anticipation with their baskets as if to say, “Come on dig in your pocket for a quarter for my basket.”
Congregation sang three songs and ushers were called up front to receive tithes and offerings. Prayer was said then Larry Morrison on bass and Sue on piano did instrumental.
Bro. Lance asked young people to come forward who were starting school, each received a gift card from Wal-Mart. I did not get a count, there was several. Pastor Dave prayed over them.
Our specials were by Susie Adams who sang with a c.d. and Bro. David Lafferty played piano and sang. We appreciate those for singing for the Lord.
Our Pastor spoke from God’s word. He chose Hebrews 3:7-13, “Golden opportunity to get to know Jesus Christ.” It was a wonderful and annointed message, “Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
At the close Bro. David Lafferty played the invitation song on piano. The Holy Spirit was dealing with people’s heart and several went forward to pray.
Sunday night we met in the fellowship room, the air conditioning wasn’t working in the sanctuary. We still had a good service. Several chose scripture from the Bible for testimonies and Pastor Dave chose Eccl. 12:13-14, “need to consult God and the Bible,” and Romans 2:21.
Saturday morning Greg and Shalyn came out to Sue’s place to pick up some things Sue had given him and Shayln sure enjoyed watching the chickens, especially the momma hen and her baby chick. She said, “Look Daddy the baby chick is flying.”
They also stopped to visit with granny and pappy.
Sunday afternoon visitors of Ervin and Lodean were Harold and Marie. They reported a very good time of visiting.
Dianne and friend, Rick had lunch with Sue after church Sunday. As they were leaving Rod, Lisa and Kayli came and visited all afternoon.
This past week Ron, Judy, Dianne and Rich had been helping me with outside work. As my brother says, “just takes time – we’ll get things done.”
Remember God loves you and you’re always welcome to worship with us at Goodhope General Baptist.
“The God who created a way for our salvation can certainly see us through our daily trials.”
From the desk of Pauline Richards – We really enjoyed the good rain last week. We got almost two inches, but we are ready for another one.
Plainview School started basketball practice last week. They have a new coach this year since Melvin Brecker resigned. I haven’t met her yet. There is only five boys in the seventh and eighth grades this year, so they have three sixth graders on the team, Kyle Thompson is one of them, so I’ve been picking him up after practice. He told me it seems like they just got out of school. The summer went so fast. The girls, Kinsey and Kailey, have been practicing softball for Ava High School. School starts Thursday the 14th.
Tony Richards came up one morning last week. We sat out at the picnic table and had a good visit. The heat nearly got to him a couple days with the 90 degree weather. I’m glad he lives close to me even if we don’t see each other that often.
Kyle came down this Monday afternoon and mowed his part of the grass. The girls are coming in the morning to do their parts. They have done a good job keeping the grass cut this summer.
I John 3-4, “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you that ye also may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his son, Jesus Christ, and these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”
