We just had great services at Girdner Sunday, both morning and evening! We had several visitors Sunday morning and so glad to have Ed Hall back with us. Praise God for answered prayer. Ed had been in the hospital, spent some time in the nursing home, and is now home and out with us again! Sis. Leslie is home from the hospital and Jack says she is doing good. Continue to pray for those still going through treatments and hold them up in prayer, as well as, their families.
The CROSS group came Sunday evening and did a great job sharing their talent with the signing sticks and using music to do their skits. It was a great service. If you haven’t seen them, I’d sure recommend them, you’d enjoy the love they have for God in their music and skits!
Sis. Maxine preached from Colossians 3:5. Every believer has the power to put off that old life they were living before the Holy Spirit came to live within us. We sometimes don’t want to take responsibility for our own actions. We say it’s our parents fault, they have passed it down to us, it’s hereditary, etc., but we make the choice. We have the power, through Jesus Christ, to make the right choices. If we read God’s word, and pray for His guidance, He will give us the strength and power to do these things. As you begin to read verse 5 it gives things that we should not have as a new man in Christ; fornication, uncleanliness, … and you think ok, I don’t have these things in my life. Then as it goes on down to verse 8, but now.. also put off anger, wrath, filthy communication, lie not to one another. That anger, I still struggle with and I have to watch as sometimes I’m in a conversation, I don’t say too much about someone I might not have the best things to say about. That malice word sounds really awful here in the word, and first you think, oh, I don’t think that is a problem for me, but lets think again. I’m afraid in my own life I can sometimes talk about something someone has done when I ought to just be quiet. Someone’s reputation is in our hand at that time, we need to rethink our thoughts sometimes, or at least I do. In Sis. Maxine’s message she said we needed to be so acquainted with God, so as we follow him, when he says, “Leave it alone” we will hear; If we should find ourselves in these things that he describes in verse 5, 8 and 9, that we should not partake of. But as we are still in this flesh, it’s weak, there will be things come through our lives that will easily get our eye, and pull us in the conversations we shouldn’t be in. That’s when that close relationship with God is so good, when we can hear him say, “leave it alone.”
Sis. Maxine spoke of Romans 8:11. But If the spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead, dwell in you, He that raised Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortal bodies by the spirit that dwells in you. We have nothing as big as Jesus being raised from the dead, so we know God can handle anything we have going on, we just got to believe and trust Him to do so.
I am pretty sure this one is just for me, but wanted to close and share this with you all, “How can I say, “I can’t” when the Bible says, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”
