Wilma Imogene “Gene” Herd, 88

Gene Herd, 88, recent widow of Troy Herd, passed gently to be with her husband of 70 years July 11, 2014, after a brief struggle with arterial disease and cardiac weakness.
Gene, like Troy, worked hard every day of her life – still chasing moles in her lawn and defending her tomatoes from squirrels the last week she spent at home. Her family, friends and neighbors will miss her strong independence and love every day.
Gene’s parents, John and Ester Duckworth, a sister Helen Bruffett, a nephew, Randy Hodges, and sister-in-law, Marie Dickey, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Susie and husband Charles; her granddaughter, Sarah Morrow and husband Marshal; her grandson, Jason Moody and partner Kristie Crawford; a sister, Norma Hodges, and a life-long family friend Elmo Wright. Others left to miss her are her nephews, Russell Bruffet and wife Rose, Larry Bruffett and wife Mary, John Bruffett and wife Pat; nieces Wanda Huffman and husband Bill; Jane Anderson and partner Tim Dyer, Michelle Neer and husband Brant, and numerous grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.
At Gene’s request there will be no services. Troy’s ashes and hers will be mingled and interred at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date in a private gathering.
In lieu of flowers please donate to your preferred charity in Gene’s name.
