“It’s all about the horns this year!” says Deegan. The Ava Summerscape Orchestra under the direction of Barbara Deegan will return for the third season with guest soloist Dr. Lisa Casey on horn performing Artik for Horn and Strings by Alan Hovhaness. The group will also perform Haydn’s Symphony Number 31 “Horn Signal (a piece featuring the French Horn section),  Il Re Pastore by Frederick the Great of Prussia, and a fiddle piece called Folk Tune Air and Fiddler’s Fury.
Dr. Lisa Casey, professor of music, joined the faculty of the Missouri State University Music Department in 2000. She teaches applied horn and brass methods. In addition to her duties at Missouri State, Casey is Principal Horn in the Springfield Symphony and also performs regularly with the Springfield Regional Opera, Ensemble 21, the Chamber Orchestra of the Ozarks, and the Missouri Chamber Players.
In 2002, Casey made her European debut at the acclaimed Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland. In the summer of 2004, she performed nine concerts in Scandinavia with the Missouri Chamber Players. Prior to her appointment at Missouri State, Dr. Casey held faculty positions at Kansas State University and Tarrant County Community College in Fort Worth, Texas. Her performance credits include positions in the Washington Idaho Symphony, Texas Wind Symphony, Kansas State University Faculty Brass Quintet, and the Kansas City Brass Project.
Summerscape was organized in 2012 by Barbara Deegan, music teacher at the Ava School District and former conductor of the Mountain Home Symphony.  The purpose of  Summerscape is to give local players a chance to play with an orchestra, to provide easy and local access to orchestra music, to offer teachers and their top students a performance opportunity, and to explore a wide variety of musical styles, some not traditionally associated with orchestras.
