I am so far behind I don’t know where to start.
June 28th, our niece, Connie Siler, was honored with a retirement party at the VFW in Ozark, MO. Lots of friends, family and co-workers attended. We wish her lots of happy times with her loved ones.
James has been cutting and hauling wood. He and our dog, Sally Jo, enjoyed several mornings chatting a while with Rod Johnson and Gary Harmon. One thing I do know the wood is very heavy.
Retirement around here is finding a lot of work to do. We dug our potatoes and they were really nice. My cabbage was real nice with large heads. The onions also did well. The cucumbers were so-so and the squash not so good, but had lots of blooms. We are having ripe tomatoes and radishes.
Our Bible school is in progress this week and they have done a great job planning and decorating.
Sunday night we worked on the Bible school theme and getting things done for Monday night. We called it a work social as we had watermelons and cantaloupes and Brenda Popovich baked James a chocolate cake. He really enjoyed it. Brenda brought beautiful flowers to church Sunday and Sunday night. I went with her to take it to Shirley Jones who hasn’t been feeling good. She made some visits to the hospital.
My brother, Rex Halcomb, had to make several trips to the doctor. He is feeling better. Please remember him in your prayers.
Sympathy sent to the Armour family. Melverine will be missed in the Mound community. She was a good worker in Bible school I attended when I was a kid. My sister-in-law, Betty Halcomb, would take several kids with her and I was one. Betty was a very good teacher. Melverine led the songs and was leader for VBS. That was a long time ago. I have some of my crafts and my sister, Sybil Harvill, had some of her kid’s crafts. Melverine sang in the Mound quartet which consisted of Jim and Frances Ewing, Daryl and Melverine and Naida Hull played the piano. She would ask my mom, do you remember a certain date? Which was her birthday. Children were born at home a lot years ago. Mom was one of the ladies that was there when she came into the world. She was a good Christian lady and a good wife, loving mother and grandmother. That’s a good way to leave this wicked world and go to a much better place.
