T.O.P.S.

T.O.P.S. was called to order by Sharon at 3:45 on June 19, 2014. There was a combined weight loss of 7.0 pounds with 16 weighing in. Liz was the highest loser. Our lesson was given by Margaret L. on “Treating Yourself Right.”

We discussed the idea that “treating yourself” usually means eating something that really doesn’t treat you right! The article by dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner explained that it should mean giving more energy, helping to lose weight, and keeping your body healthy. Some of her ideas: eat dinner at the table—don’t walk and eat; be prepared for emergencies like donut “treats” at work; be realistic–successful losers drop about 8% of their body weight; find friends with the same healthy “treat” standards; watch what you put in the grocery cart—if you don’t buy it, you can’t eat it!; and set S.M.A.R.T. goals—specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. Instead of “I’m going to be more active” choose “I will walk for 30 minutes every day for the next month.”

T.O.P.S (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a non profit international weight loss support group open to anyone 7 years of age or older. T.O.P.S meets from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the basement of the courthouse. Come and visit us to find out more about T.O.P.S. We welcome anyone looking to get and stay healthy.
