T.O.P.S.

T.O.P.S. was called to order by Sharon at 3:45 on May 27, 2014. There was a combined weight loss of 20.2 pounds with 18 weighing in. Joyce was the highest loser. Our lesson was given by Sharon on the Benefits of Physical Activity from the Dept. of Agriculture “Choose My Plate” site.

The 10 suggestions for physical activity included: start slowly and build up over time; get your heart pumping; do strength training; make active choices such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking farther from the door; try various activities and be active your way; use a buddy system for motivation and fun; set reasonable goals and track your progress; increase the time spent on activities by a “little bit,” increase your effort through interval training or aerobic dance; and finally, have fun!

We discussed some of the requirements for the “Anchors Aweigh” contest and scheduled the Chapter Walk for June 10. We chose Margaret L. to be the “Master Chief” and handle the details of the contest. We also invited any member to attend the Summer Workshop in Lebanon on June 14.

T.O.P.S (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a non-profit international weight loss support group open to anyone 7 years of age or older. T.O.P.S meets from 3pm to 4:30pm in the basement of the courthouse. Come and visit us to find out more about T.O.P.S. We welcome anyone looking to get and stay healthy.
