Since our pastor was on vacation, Brother Dennis Goodwin preached in the morning and evening services Sunday. The special song in the morning service was a solo by Linda Ferguson. Barbara Uhles had Junior Church in Sister Cinda’s absence. Brother Goodwin gave an overview of the book of Romans. Then he read Romans 11:33-34. “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgements, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counselor?” God knows everything about everything. He knows all about You. Only God knows how to deal with sin. We are absolutely dependent upon God, we owe Him everything. He needs nothing or no one.
The special music in the evening service was a quartet number by Brian and Donna Sue Haynes and her sister, Linda Lee and Dennis Goodwin. Brother Goodwin then conducted an interactive class session on Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses. “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations..from everlasting to everlasting thou art God…a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night…teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” With God all time is “eternity present.” Man’s life is as fragile as grass, green and growing early, but can be cut down and wither quickly.
In the Wednesday evening service, Linda Ferguson led three congregational songs, John Venezia gave a report from North Korea, and Norman Murray led in prayer. Then Brian Haynes gave a devotional message, “20 Cans of Success” by reading Phil. 4:13, ” I can do all things through Christ.” He asked 17 members of the congregation to read other scripture verses as he commented on them. The closing prayer was by Dennis Uhles.
