The Snoop 5.8.2014

A just-released survey by a national agency reveals the most uncomfortable conversation you could ever have with Mom – is about taking away her car keys because you think she’s a safety hazard.
Survey says: 79% of adult children would rather talk to their aging moms about sex than about safety concerns over her driving.

However, once you tell Mom you want her to hand over the keys, most say Mom would handle it much better than Dad.
Eighty-nine percent say Mom would probably be relieved she doesn’t have to drive anymore and 70 percent say Mom would willingly hand over the keys.
Dad’s a different story. Seventy-four percent say Dad would get angry to the point he may stop speaking to you (62%), deny there’s a problem (78%) and if you take away his keys he might take away some of your inheritance (70%).
The survey was commissioned by Visiting Angels, one of our nation’s largest in-home senior care companies with offices in our area. The agency started a Senior Driving Safety program that can help families address this issue without causing conflict.

Pastor Mark Hatcher began a series of sermons on the 23rd Psalm a couple of weeks ago. So, when I ran across this version of the familiar Psalm, I felt I just had to share it. This comes from Sheila Heil in The Gospel Greats newsletter this week.
My Appetite Is My Shepherd (Pound 23)
My appetite is my shepherd; I always want.
It maketh me to sit down and stuff myself.
It leadeth me to my refrigerator repeatedly.
It leadeth me in the path of Burger King for a Whopper.
It destroyeth my shape.
Yea, though I knoweth that I gaineth,
I will not stop eating, for the food tasteth so good.
The ice cream and the cookies, they comfort me.
When the table is spread before me, it exciteth me, for I know that I soon shall dig in.
As I filleth my plate continuously, my clothes runneth smaller.
Surely bulges and pudgies shall follow me all the days of my life
And I shall be “pleasingly plump” forever.

After months of uncertainty and confusion, someone has finally come up with an explanation of Obamacare, or to be politically correct, the Affordable Care Act. This is the way it was explained to me:
In order to insure the uninsured, we first have to un-insure the insured.
Next we require the newly un-insured to be re-insured.
To re-insure the newly un-insured, they are required to pay extra charges to be re-insured.
The extra charges are required so that the original insured, who became un-insured, and then became re-insured, can pay enough extra so that the original un-insured can be insured for free.
There, I hope that this clarifies this issue once and for all.
Please pass this along so others will understand it.

Almost everywhere we’ve been during the past week, someone has offered words of concern because of the damage the Herald Office took in last week’s storm. We appreciate all the words of encouragement. Quite honestly, we were afraid to say too much last week about overcoming the damage until we actually fired up the news press and began printing last week, but it looks like all the equipment is going to be fine. Eventually, we’ll get the building back in shape.
