Lions Walk/Run For Sight Held Saturday on Y Hwy.

Mother Nature smiled on the Ava Lions Club Walk/Run for Sight held last Saturday morning in Ava.
The race started and ended at Cross Point Church on Highway Y just west of the Ava City Park. Runners and walkers began the course under a blanket of fog which had lifted by the time the competitors finished the race.
During the awards ceremony, medals were handed out to winners in the various categories of competition, and each participant also received a ticket for door prizes provided by area merchants.
The top overall finisher of the 5K run was Abel Parker, 16, of Thornfield, who ran the course in a time of 17:15.1.
Liz Kyger, of Oldfield, was the first female finisher with a time of 23:19.9.
Official times were professionally recorded by Ozark Racing Systems of Springfield.
The Masters winners were Tim Shryack, of Springfield, and Nance Swofford, of Ava, both age 54.
Female under 12 winner was Hadassah Parker, 8, of Thornfield, and the male winner was Ethan Johnson, 11, of Ava.

Male 13-19: 1st, Braden Swofford, 14, Ava; 2nd Elijah Parker, 17, Thornfield.
Female 20-29: 1st, Micca Howard, 27, Ava; 2nd, Allisa West, 28, Gainesville; 3rd, Brittany Stillwell, 27.
Male 20-29: 1st, Austin Maggard, 24, Ava; 2nd, Judson Wall, 27.
Female 30-39: 1st, Carene Sicilia, 39.
Male 30-39: 1st, Joseph Johnson, 34, Ava.
Female 40-49: 1st, Jayma Potter, 46, Ava.
Male 40-49: 1st, Doug Hawkins, 43, Noble.
Female 50-59: 1st, Thelma Clayton, 52, Squires; 2nd, Regina Wood, 52, Ava; 3rd, Kathy Valentine, 54, Squires.
Male 50-59: 1st, Bill Thompson, 57, Springfield.
Female 60-69: 1st, Sandy Wiley, 62, Ava.
Male 60-69: 1st, Bob Niesen, 64, Springfield; 2nd, Oren Alcorn, 61, Ava; 3rd, Ronnie Epps, 62, Ava.
Male 70 & over: 1st, Dale Davis, 75, Ava; 2nd, Ray Reynolds, 78, Ava.
Winners in the One Mile Walk category were, female: Paige Ellison, 11, of Ava; male: Evan Johnson, 7, Ava.
Members of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) provided motorcycle escorts for the runners and helped control traffic along the course on Y Highway.
