On Monday, May 5, the Ava Bears golf team brought home the top honor of District Champions by scoring a team total of 336 and beating the Mountain Grove team score of 346.  
Tristan Haltom won 1st place individual by shooting a 70 (1 under par); 2nd place went to Ian Barnes (73) from Licking, and 3rd place was secured by the freshman Haltom brother, Taylor, with a score of 79.
Other Ava golfers helping the effort and earning all district honors include:  Jesse Dean (93), Conner Canape (94), and Chandler Roberts (105).  Only the top two district teams (Ava and Mountain Grove) plus 15 individual golfers made it out of District 5 and will continue to make a run for state honors.    
The Ava golf team will advance to the State Sectional Golf Tournament on Monday, May 12 held at the Eagle Creek golf course in Joplin where they will attempt to advance to the state finals tournament.  
Only two teams plus 15 individuals will advance from sectionals.  Ava will be competing against Mountain Grove, Springfield Catholic, the 1st place team from District 6, and Lamar.  Only two teams and 15 individuals from Districts 5 and 6 will compete on May 19 and 20 at Bolivar in the State Class 2 Golf Tournament.
