Ava Lions 5K Run; Walk for Sight To Be Held This Saturday Morning

The Ava Lions Club 5th annual 5K Run and 1-mile Walk for Sight will be held this Saturday morning, May 10.
The race will begin and end at Cross Point Church on Highway Y, just west of Highway 5.
The run will begin at 9 a.m. and again this year will be electronically timed by Ozark Racing Systems which has also verified the course for accuracy.
Participation and community support have been tremendous in the previous four events and the Lions are anticipating another banner year with walkers and runners ranging in age from kindergarten to senior citizens.
Medals will be awarded to the first three places in each category and some of the faster runners will compete for a medal plus some nice prizes.
These prizes will be awarded to the overall female and male winners and also prizes will be awarded to the fastest female and male runners in the over-40 age group. A medal and prize will also be awarded to the first place female and male runner in each age category.
A ticket will be provided to each participant for a drawing to be held at the completion of the race. Among the prizes are tickets to Branson shows, gift basket, coupons for free food, portable air compressor plus many more prizes.
Each person registered will also receive a backpack filled with more coupons and “goodies” as well as those who pre-registered by the deadline will receive a “tech” shirt.
The funds raised by this event will support Lions activities which include providing eye glasses for students who need them but can’t afford them, scholarships to graduating seniors, and support of community efforts such as “Meals on Wheels”, “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” and “Heart of the Hills Food Pantry”, as well as other Lions community projects.
Race day registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at Cross Point Church. The race will begin at 9 a.m., with the awards ceremony at 10 a.m.
