The Ava Saddle Club held their monthly meeting on April 7, 2014 and Wow, is it going to be a busy year! We had our annual Coggins Clinic on March 1 and had a great turn out. We appreciate the Animal Clinic of Ava for hosting and for the pizza. We had a clean-up and work day on April 6. We got the new windows put in. We appreciate Mr. Tim Stafford and wife, Bonnee for that. Also a new outside door to the restrooms, painting, rock picking and general clean-up inside and out. We also had a nice lunch with hamburgers and hot dogs provided by the club and sides and desserts provided by the members. We appreciate all who took the time to show up to help. Next projects include fixing the ceiling at the club house (which will be contracted), putting up the new lights in the arena, and putting sand in the arena.
Our Saddle Series Fun Shows will start this Saturday, April 12. We will be awarding three Corriente saddles this year, one for series high point in each division: pee-wee, youth and adult. We’ll also be awarding saddle pads, breast collars, headstalls and halters. You must show in three of five shows to be eligible for awards and must be at the final show to accept awards. Other Fun Shows will be May 10, June 14, July 12 and Aug. 9.
Ranch Sorting practice will start up again June 20. We hope they have the sand in the arenea by then. We will also be hosting a Missouri Family Rodeo on June 21. Douglas County Foxtrotting Breeders Association Show will be on July 19. The Tri-County Youth Show will be August 16. Our Charity Show will be September 20.
We’ll be hosting two shows for Sho-Me Ranch Horse Assocation. One on July 26 and the other on August 23rd. These shows consist of five classes: Ranch Cutting, Working Cow, Trail, Reining and Ranch Pleasure, with four divisions: Open, Amateur, Novice and Youth.
At the meeting we saw lots of familiar faces and some new faces and we’re glad to have them all. Even Frank and Mary Williams were there!
