Red Bank Church

Greetings to everyone.  Spring will be, officially, sprung this Thursday, March 20, but I hear that we may not recognize that fact for a little while longer.   At least, we are beginning to experience more warm days as time goes by.  I’m definitely looking forward to that.

The Red Bank Church service began with hymns led by Gary Lirley.  Brother Lauren welcomed everyone and gave the announcements.  Brother Jerry Huff is still on our prayer list for healing.  He spent several days in the hospital last week.  We pray that he is on the mend.  Get well soon Jerry.

Brother Lauren is still preaching from the Book of James.  This Scripture reveals to us how true Faith in Christ will produce doers and not just hearers alone.  The description of what Faith looks like is also evident throughout this Book.  Faith obeys God’s Word.  Faith is strong and will not consent to lust and other sinful acts.  Faith is not prejudice.  Faith shows itself in wise decisions.  Faith will wisely turn away from worldly pleasures and look toward those sanctioned by God.  Faith is patient and will control the tongue.  In this week’s sermon, taken from chapter 4, we learn in that if we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us.   Verse 8 comforts us with these words, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.  Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”  More clarity for this Scripture comes in verse 10, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

The weather had worsened by the end of Church service so it was decided to cancel the evening services.  I called one of our members to check to see if they had returned home safely.  It was reported that the country roads were very muddy and hard to maneuver through and the highways were very slick.

It’s getting close to time for the annual Alumni Banquet to take place.  The Banquet date is set for Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Ava High School Gymnasium.  Those that graduated in 1959 will be celebrating their 55th year.  A small group of the 1959 alumni gathered at the Village Inn Restaurant in Ozark, Mo. to discuss plans for those class members to meet together so they can reminisce about old memories and catch up on news about their current lives.  The Rock Bridge Red Barn was chosen for the meeting place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on May 3, 2014.   There will be special tables set up for the 1959 class members to sit and dine together later that evening at the Alumni Banquet.  The committee is making a special effort to contact each member.  Class members from years previous and or past 1959 are welcome to come and share in getting reacquainted with their friends and classmates.  Feel free to call me at 683-5991 for more information.

That’s all the news for now.  Take care and enjoy the sunshine.  God loves you and he desires to have a close relationship with you.
