Dogwood Ramblings

Patsy Williams called to share some news.  A little while back Patsy had what she thought was bronchitis and it turned out to be pneumonia.  We are so glad that is now behind her.  Her little great grandson Matthew, grandson of Scott, and son of Cheryce and Zack had his 2nd birthday on Feb. 17th and a big party was held on Sunday the 16th.  Many family and friends turned up for this special occasion.  Little Matthew now goes into a different part of day care with the “big kids”.  The Williams family is such a good example for all of us.

When it was so very, very cold one of the Williams families opened their home for worship service so the Pleasant Ridge Church wouldn’t have to be heated.  Patsy said Angela Breedlove has had foot surgery and needs to keep her foot elevated, and luckily her mother is with her to help out.  Patsy also said that on Valentine’s Day, her sons blessed her with their attentions and she is so appreciative of their thoughtfulness.  Patsy related that Jamey Herd is still under the weather as she managed to pick up one of the bugs going around.  Please do pray for her.

Kim Fancher showed up at St. Leo’s Church on the 16th with a bouquet of Valentine flowers and card for me.  So very sweet of her!  I hope everyone received at least one card or phone call.  A cute card arrived here from John, my sweetheart from back in 1948, and then his phone call.  We have both lost so many family members and friends in all these years and haven’t seen each other since 1951 – that would be a shock!!  I have been invited to the 63rd “Girls Reunion” of my Los Angeles high school graduating class.  Twice I have been able to attend and yet, each year those able to attend are fewer and fewer.  I’ll just send a letter for all to read if they are interested.  With my son Ryan moving from California to Texas there is less incentive to travel, and of course, it costs money.  Also, I do not relish the thought of driving across the Los Angeles Basin ever again.

Finally got my 2013 tax report back and wonder of wonders, my Social Security wasn’t taxed as I had been forewarned.  Here is what happened on January 1st 2014: Top Income tax bracket went from 35% to 39.6%; Top Income payroll tax went from 37.4% to 52.2%; Capital Gains tax went from 15% to 28 %; Dividends tax went from 15% to 39.6 %; Estate tax went from 0% to 55%    That is 55% of anything you inherit.  Don’t you feel honored how your tax dollars are spent?  I can’t afford to go to California but those of the White House go worldwide on our money – partying everywhere during their “royal” reign!

There has been a bit of roof damage from those nasty winds and fortunately for me, no damage can be seen here.  Wouldn’t be surprised a lot of trees or perhaps just branches are down and hope they aren’t on your roof or your fences so that livestock gets out.  No good comes from encountering an Angus on a dark road.  Bob and Dana Wagner, Mike and Cathy Schultz, and family members checked on me and my place.  I hope any roof repairs are accomplished before it rains and before that freezing weather which is promised.

Ivan Lawson had a little family party this past weekend and enjoyed seeing his twin grandbabies.  Craig Lawson popped in here for a minute.  Randy got some fencing completed and did some tractor repair work.  Mike Workman stopped at Randy’s place when he saw a glow there.  All was OK as Randy was carefully burning in a trash barrel.

Do remember all in prayer for whatever their needs may be.
