According to the weather forecasters, this weekend is going to be very unpleasant – just downright nasty – with a chance of freezing rain, sleet or snow predicted.
However, the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce is counting on much more pleasant weather for the annual Ava Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and travel its normal route down Jefferson Street to the Ava square.
Floats will be awarded prize money of $500 for the grand prize, $200 for first place, $100 for second, and $50 for third prize.
There will also be categories of judging for horses, golf carts, 4-wheelers, bicycles, pets, cars, tractors – just about anything.
All entries are welcome, including walking units.
This year’s parade theme is “Candy Canes & Christmas Carols.”
The parade on Saturday will be preceded by the Friday Night Frolic on the Ava square Friday night, Dec. 13.
The Frolic will also include activities for the kids, seasonal music by the Ava High School jazz band, and other entertainment.
Little Miss and Master Merry Christmas will be announced at the Frolic, and Santa Claus will be on hand to greet the children.
Mrs. Claus will also be there, reading stories to the kids.
As a special feature on Saturday, Ozark Independent Living will be in Ava prior to the parade to provide refurbished medical equipment to those in need. They will also inspect and repair equipment as needed, all free of charge.

In addition to the parade and Friday Night Frolic, the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce will also sponsor residential and storefront decorating contests in conjunction with the weekend activities.
