Our Sunday morning worship was a little different due to our weather conditions this week. We had no early service this morning but Sunday school met at 9:45 for those who braved the roads to get there. We ended up having an adult class downstairs and one upstairs. It was nice to see new faces and study together. We had the worship service at 10:45 a.m. and had quite a lot in attendance. We thank you all who did brave the weather, but we bless you all who were not able to make it. We want you to be safe and sound for another day and sometimes we have to stay off the roads to ensure our safety.
We lit the 2nd candle of Advent, which is peace. Bro. Oren spoke about the peace that only God can ensure. Isaiah 9:1-7 tells of the coming of a child who would be the savior of the world. Only through a relationship with Jesus can we have that peace within. As Bro. Oren said, that we may have anxiety from the worldly things but the peace in our hearts only come from God. It’s hard to explain to others who don’t have that personal relationship to Jesus Christ, but even in rough times, we have peace in the knowledge that God is with us always.
Evening services and the holiday dinner were dismissed tonight due to the weather. We did have choir practice because this will be the last practice for the real thing. We want to invite you all to come celebrate Christmas with us next Sunday morning, Dec. 15th at either 8:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. We will share our Christmas music Cantata and we want you to invite others to come with you. Sunday night on Dec 15th our Christmas play will begin at 6 p.m. and you don’t want to miss out on that. Also you will see what the children have worked up for us. We welcome you.
One thing I want to note, is that the Women One service that was scheduled for last Saturday has been moved to next Saturday, Dec. 14th at 7 p.m. at our church. We hope as many as can come will be there.
Dec 22nd will be our Candle Light Communion at 6 p.m. This is a very special, moving communion and is open to all Christians, not just from our church. It is a time to reflect and communicate with God.
Please keep those prayer requests on your heart this week and pray for God’s touch in their life. I know we don’t always realize how important that can be to those who ask for it. God hears us and in His time and in His will, He will answer. Pray for the Cap Porter family and for others who have lost loved ones. Pray for those who are going through this holiday season without the loved ones they lost recently. It’s a time for family and friends and so we want to pray for each other as well. Pray for healing in those who are sick, recovering from surgery or hospital stays or just the weary at heart. God loves you all.
Don’t forget to check out our website at www.avageneral.com and keep up on the latest events and happenings at our church. There is also a link there that you can go and sign up for text alerts for not only the church but for school and other things.
We pray that you will find that peace in your heart, not only at Christmas time but the peace that only comes from knowing our Lord and savior. We’ll see you on Sunday. God Bless.
