SummerFest Planned For Next Year

The 4th Thursday, Friday and Saturday of May (May 22-24, 2014) will be the “first annual” Ava Summer Fest. Mark your calendars for a great event that will be held on the square along with the upper and lower parks. Due to an overwhelming wish to re-activate our old Poke Salat Days and incorporate some of the fun things that Gainesville’s Hootin an Hollerin put on, we have put together a core of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to make this dream a reality.
Some of the festivities will be a King and Queen contest for three age groups, music from Branson musicians and a bed race around the square. Other fun things going on will be vendors with all home-made items, delicious food and lots of games, an evening outdoor movie, street dancing and a parade including vehicles, decorated bicycles, skate boards and animals.
There will be something for everyone including a scavenger hunt, local art displays and a small engine display.
Also included will be crafts and information about our local heritage.
We are in desperate need of volunteers to help with the numerous committees needed to pull of an event of this magnitude. Your help could be as simple as handing out flyers or using your various talents in some of the many ways that will be needed.
The meetings are the first Thursday of each month at the MOCH Wellness Center at 5:30pm. There will be no December meeting but we will be starting up in full swing at the first meeting of the new year on January 2. Your input, ideas and help are gratefully appreciated. We will look forward to seeing you at the planning meetings.

Watch for “Sunny”, our Summer Fest mascot as she is introduced at the Ava Christmas Parade December 14.
