Sunday, November 17 was the twenty-fifth sermon on the Epistle for the day, Ist John 3:1, “Behold what manner of love the father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God.” In this letter St. John discusses one of the big questions:what is our purpose in life? The answer is that our identity comes from God as a child’s name come from his father, and we must work to take on as much of Christ’s character as we are able to do.
After the service we had a delicious potluck dinner then hold our regular vestry meeting in which we discussed the usual church business as well as the church calendar for the coming year as this was our last vestry meeting for the current year.
This was also our annual Harvest Festival in which we collect food and supplies for the Food Harvest of the Ozarks and a good quantity of food was brought in. Also for this event the church was beautifully decorated with an autumn motif and in place of altar flowers provided by Penelope Willard.
Sunday evening I attended a thrilling concert by the MSU Concert Chorale given at King’s Way Methodist Church in Springfield and enjoyed it very much.
