Frances McNeil Edwards, 91

Frances McNeil Edwards, 91, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at her home. The funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Frances was born Nov. 1, 1921, to William Frederick Sr. and Frances (Mikulich) McNeil.  She was baptized Nov. 13, 1921, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kan., and was a lifetime member of its Altar Society.
She attended St. John the Baptist grade school primer through second grade, Holy Family School second grade through eighth grade, Bishop Ward High School three years and entered the Ursuline Convent in Paola, Kan., on Aug. 15, 1938, and graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1940.
She continued her education at Ursuline Junior College in Paola, Kan., then on to Mt. St. Scholastica College, Atchison, Kan., receiving a B.S. in education administration at St. Mary University in Leavenworth, Kan., and a masters in education administration.
Her post-graduate work was done at Avila, Donnelly, Marquette, Incarnate Word, Columbia University, Drury, and Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) University. She earned lifetime certificates for Kansas and Missouri as teacher and administrator in elementary and secondary education.
Frances served as principal and teacher for 29 years in the Ursuline Order’s Catholic and public schools in Kansas and Oklahoma.
After dispensation from her vows, she married George W. Edwards and continued public school teaching and C.C.D. teaching of Catholic students from public schools. She also served as eucharistic minister, home visiting catechist and choir member.
Frances was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the National Education Retired Teachers Association, and served in the local Community Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings William F. McNeil Jr., and Theresa Ann Endicott; and husband of 29 years, George W. Edwards.
Surviving is her sister, Mary Hecke, of Edwardsville, Kan., and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
