Softball Lady Bears Fall on Hard Times

The Ava Lady Bears softball team is struggling this year, dropping two more games during the past week.

The Ava girls had a 7-1 lead at Norwood Monday put ended up losing the game 21-11 when the defense fell apart.

On Tuesday, the girls traveled to Springfield to take on Glendale, and lost 8-5.

At Norwood, Lakota Blakey and Hope Evans each had three hits and Jacey Swofford drove in three runs, but Ava committed four costly errors and pitcher Misty Regennitter walked nine Norwood batters.

Regennitter also struck out five Lady Pirates.

Norwood scored 21 runs on 15 hits. Ava scored 11 runs on 13 hits.

At Glendale the following day, Ava scored five runs on five hits, but the Lady Bears again committed five errors and walked eight Falcon batters.

Ava batters were awarded 12 bases on balls to go with five base hits, but came up short on the scoreboard.

Swofford, Regennitter, Evans and Maranda Yost each had an RBI for Ava on Tuesday.

Ava will host Rogersville in non-conference play today at 4:30 and will play in the West Plains Tournament on Saturday.

Next Monday the girls will go to Hollister and on Tuesday they will be in Wright County, playing Hartville.

The West Plains Zizzer Softball Tournament will be pool play with the Lady Bears pooled with Winona, Reeds Spring and West Plains.

Ava will play Reeds Spring at 9 a.m., Winona at 12 noon, and West Plains at 1:30.

The other pool will feature Willow Springs, East Carter, Rogersville and Cabool.
