As we head toward fall and the temperature begins to drop, many families in southwest Missouri are faced with not being able to provide warm clothing for their newborn infants and small children. Unexpected layoffs, the high price of formula, as well as the never-ending cost of buying diapers makes it virtually impossible for some families to purchase other necessities such as warm blankets or infant sleepers.
Newborns in Need Inc. Southwest Missouri Chapter, a long-standing local charity decided to step-up once again and help local residents with this need when they began a national donation drive in September of 2012.
“Sleepers in September” was created to help Newborns in Need collect infant sleepers to be distributed among local families who were struggling due to a medical or financial crisis. The sleepers that were collected were then given to these needy families completely free of charge. Babies and toddlers throughout Douglas, Laclede, Ozark, Webster and Wright counties were snuggled in warmth as a result of the donations received through this month-long donation drive.
And you can help this year by donating an infant/toddler sleeper during “Sleepers in September.” Donations can be dropped-off at the Douglas County Health Department Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 603 NW 12th Avenue in Ava. Each sleeper that is collected during the month of September will be given to a local baby/toddler in need. Your donations will directly impact the families in your community!
