Skyline Board Meets Thursday, Sept. 19

The Skyline R-2 Board met in regular session on Thursday Sept. 19, with six members present.  The consent agenda items consisting of board minutes, bills and financial statement were presented and approved.
In old business:  The annual tax rate approved at the last board meeting of $3.0226 was amended to $2.9967.  Also, in old business, the Board reviewed a bid for installing a security door at the front entrance of the building.  It was tabled until notice of a grant is received.
In new business:   The board discussed the new Teacher Evaluation System the state is recommending. Policy 4610 Certificated Personnel Performance Evaluation, was presented and approved. Bus repairs were discussed for two buses.  At this time the board agreed to fix one bus and to hold off on the other one as long as the school has a spare bus to use.
The Post Office has requested that the mailbox be moved for safety reasons so possible placements were discussed.  The Emergency Management Plan is being revised and board members were asked to volunteer to be on the committee to update the plan.
In the Superintendent’s Report:  Enrollment for September was 86 students in K-8th grade with 12 preschool students.  Superintendent Curtis discussed tuition rates for this school year (Ava had a decrease in their rate).
Skyline received the Childhood Obesity Grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health, and received the Delta Grant in conjunction with the Douglas County Health Dept.  Skyline will join Ava on Wednesday Sept. 25, at 9 a.m. for a celebration to announce a generous grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health to help initiate programs that will create more access and choices in nutrition and physical activity.
MAP scores and AYP was presented.  Skyline received all points possible for the Adequate Yearly Progress report (AYP).  These points were earned through high MAP scores in communication arts, mathematics, and science, attendance, and High School Readiness (8th grade students taking the Algebra I EOC test).
The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday Oct. 17,  at 7 p.m.
