Lady Bears Have Busy Week On the Softball Field; Win 2

The Ava Lady Bears dropped two of three games in the West Plains Softball Tournament last Saturday, with the only win being a 13-1 victory over Cabool.
Ava lost to Reeds Spring 10-6 and was shut out by West Plains, 16-0.
Ava pitcher Misty Regennitter allowed no Cabool hits, but walked seven Lady Bulldogs which accounted for their one unearned run.
Ava pounded out 10 hits, including a home run by Maison Bovard and doubles by Regennitter and Hope Evans. Bovard, Regennitter and Jacey Swofford were each 2-for-3 at the plate and Bovard had five RBIs in the game.
Bailey Lee and Callie Eubanks each scored two runs, along with Bovard and Evans.
Ava scored two in the first, five in the second, one in the third and five in the fourth to end the game. Cabool’s only run came in the top of the second inning.
Ava committed one error and Cabool had three errors.
Ava jumped on Reeds Spring for five runs in the top of the first inning and the Lady Wolves came back with two in the bottom half. Ava added one in the top of the second to take a 6-2 lead, only to have Reeds Spring retaliate with seven in the bottom half to take the lead, 9-6. The Lady Wolves added one more in the bottom half of the third inning.
Ava out-hit Reeds Spring 7-6, but the Lady Bears allowed eight free passes which made the difference in the game.
Bovard was 2-for-2 and drove in a run. Kayte Aid was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Swofford and Evans each drove in a run, as well.
Eubanks, Lee, Lakota Blakey, Emily Guengerich and Macy Jones each scored for the Lady Bears.
West Plains defeated the Lady Bears in three innings, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and adding five in the second.
Ava went hitless and also committed four errors.
McKenna Hunsaker and Lakota Blakey pitched for Ava against the Lady Zizzers.
Ava played Hollister and Hartville on the road in non-conference action on Monday and Tuesday this week.
The girls will be back on the home field this afternoon (Thursday) vs. Thayer in conference play, and will play in the Hollister Tournament on Saturday.
At the Hollister Tournament, Ava is scheduled to face Mtn. Grove at 10 a.m. and Springfield Central at 11:30. At 4 p.m. the Lady Bears will play Hollister.
Coming up next week, Ava has Mtn. Grove here in conference action on Monday and will travel to Lebanon on Tuesday to take on the Yellowjackets. On Thursday, Sept. 26, Houston will be here for an SCA contest.
At Hollister last Monday afternoon, the Lady Bears jumped out to a 5-run lead in the first inning and won 17-0 after four. Ava had four runs in the second inning, five in the third and three in the fourth.
Ava had 10 hits, including a home run by Jacey Swofford who drove in seven Ava runs.
Regennitter walked only one batter and allowed just two hits.
Bailey Lee was 2-for-2 with four runs scored and Callie Eubanks was 2-for-4 with three runs plated.
Hartville defeated the Lady Bears 10-1 on Tuesday.
After two scoreless innings Hartville scored one run in the bottom of the third inning, added six in the fourth, one more in the fifth and two in the sixth to put the game away.
The Lady Bears scored their only run in the top of the fourth to tie the game briefly at 1-1.
Regennitter was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a single. Swofford was 1-for-4 with a double.
Evans was 1-for-3 and had Ava’s only RBI.
