Kansas Driver Escapes Car Before It Burns

The Misouri State Highway Patrol and two area fire departments responded to a wreck on Highway 76 in eastern Douglas County last Friday.
Troop G reported that a 2001 Toyota Four Runner ran off the right side of Highway 76, went down a steep embankment and overturned.
The driver, Thomas M. Goetz, 57, of Lawrence, Kan., exited the vehicle before it caught fire.
The wreck occurred at 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 30, 12 miles west of Willow Springs on Highway 76.
Goetz was taken by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital, Springfield, with moderate injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt when the wreck occurred, the Patrol said.
The crash was investigated by Tpr. Amye Johnson, Tpr. D.A. Huffman, and Tpr. Daniel Johnson. Also responding were Willow Springs and Eastern Douglas County fire departments.
