Free Intro to Permaculture Class To be Held in Ava

Permaculture is a system for designing self-sustaining eco-systems that provide for human needs by using nature’s own techniques. This includes growing your own food with minimal inputs from outside (no fertilizer or pesticides need to be purchased.)
By emulating a natural forest, common gardening practices such as tilling, weeding and watering are eliminated or greatly reduced. Permaculture designs also meet many of our other needs such as housing, heating, cooking and materials for arts and crafts.
This class will include the basics principles of Permaculture, focusing on food forests.
The class will be in the Ava Art Guild building in Ava, one block east of the square on East Washington Ave. (Route 14.)
This free class will be held over two evenings, Thursday, Sept. 19, and Friday, Sept. 20. The class will go from 6:30 to 9 p.m. both nights. Paul Hetrick of Douglas County is a certified Permaculture Design consultant will be the instructor. He has recently repeated his certification course with Geoff Lawton of Australia.
