Douglas County Democrats Meet Tuesday Night

The monthly meeting for the Douglas County Democrats was called to order by Chair Gene Cherry at 5:35 p.m. on Sept. 10.

The minutes from last month’s meeting were shared with the group.  It was agreed to accept the              minutes with no revisions or modifications.

Treasurer Chaz Franzke reported our current balance. Our chair congratulated Mr. Franzke on the interesting  article in Sunday’s New York Times which was about the unique campground business that Chaz has run in Douglas County for 15 years.

As reported at last month’s meeting, Chair Gene Cherry and his wife, Sharon, have moved to Ozark County, so he resigned as Chair of our group.  Nominations were requested for a new chair.  The group unanimously chose Teresa Tost as our new chair.

It was decided to have our booth for Farmer’s Market next Saturday, Sept.  14.  As always, all benefits will go to area schools for their Backpack Programs which provide healthy snacks to deserving students.

There was discussion about getting shirts made with the logo “Douglas County Democrats” on each shirt.  Teresa Tost said she would look into this for the group.

We will again provide a scholarship next spring to a senior in high school who is a Douglas County resident.  The Scholarship Committee will review the application used last spring and will update it so that it can be sent out to area high schools no later than January of 2014.

It was decided that we would have our next and final booth for the season at Farmer’s Market on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Gene Cherry expressed his gratitude to all the members for making his time as chair very interesting and a lot of fun.  He and Sharon were told that they would always be welcome at our meetings.

Our next meeting was set for Thursday, Oct. 3, instead of Tuesday because we learned that by our next meeting, Krazy Daze will have new hours and will be closing by 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.   We will have dinner at 5 p.m. and our meeting at 5:30 p.m.  If you have any questions you may call Tanya Williams, secretary for our group, at (417) 683-3884.

Meeting was adjourned at 6 p.m.
