Activity may reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 50 percent. That’s the bottom line of a recent study of adults in their 70′s and 80′s. Researchers monitored their daily physical activity, including tasks like cooking and cleaning, for up to 120 days. People who were the least active were more than twice as likely to develop the disease during the next several years.
The activities around the Center include Monday—OATS bus to Springfield, Jam Session 6-9. Tuesday—Tai chi senior exercise class 10:30, DCCA Meeting 12:30. Wednesday—OATS bus in and around Ava, pinochle tournament 12:00 noon. Thursday—Driver’s exam basement 9:30-3:30. Friday—OATS bus in and around Ava.
Green onions, such as scallions, have plenty of potassium and vitamins A and C. But most onions are very low in vitamins and minerals. However, like other ‘allium’ vegetables—garlic, leeks, chives—all onions are rich in potentially disease-fighting substances, particularly sulfur compounds. Those compounds may help inhibit blood clots, reduce cholesterol levels, relax the arteries, and block the formation and effects of cancer-causing chemicals.
Remember to come by on Saturday the 5th and eat breakfast with us. We’re open from 7:30 to 10:30 serving sausage, biscuit and gravy. The best Folgers coffee in town!
The biggest problem with being average is that you’re as close to the bottom as you are the top.
Until next week, have a great one!
