Ava Middle School Lady Bears Open Volleyball Season

The Middle School VolleyBears opened their 2013 season at home Thursday, Sept. 12, hosting the West Plains Zizzers.
Ava’s 7th grade started their season with a win, beating the Zizzers in a three-game match.
Ava won game one easily, 25-12;  the Zizzers took game two, 21-25; and then Ava battled back and finished the match winning game three, 25-20.
Kiaunna Snow really stepped up serving for Ava, Coach Ann Leonard said. In two games she went 20/21 serving.
Gracie Heinlein was also very strong serving with 16/16.  She also passed 12/16. Setter Ashton Beweley was 10/12 setting, 16/19 passing and 13/15 serving with 3 ace serves; setter Kate McDonald was 6/9 setting and 5/7 serving with one ace serve. Jada Gunter served 8/9 with 3 ace serves, was 14/17 passing and had three big hits for Ava. Macey Phillips was 11/17 passing and had 2 big hits; Madison Croney was 3/3 passing and 1/1 hitting; Haley Hawkins, Araina Evans and Lauren Mendel each had a hit for Ava.
West Plains 8th grade defeated Ava in a two-game match.  Ava battled and had long rallies with the Zizzers but could not pull off a victory.  Ava 8th grade looks forward to playing West Plains again next week.
Kaylee Evans was 4/4 serving with 1 ace serve and 16/22 passing; setter Marissa Reynolds was 8/8 setting, 4/4 serving and 8/10 passing; Katherine Buff was 3/3 serving, 19/24 passing and 2/2 hitting; Makayla Diel went 2/2 serving and 2/2 hitting; Jasmine Dalton was 2/2 serving, 2/2 hitting, and 21/29 passing.
Haylee Hare passed 11/12; Madison Freeman was 7/9 passing; and setter Sierra Boatman was 17/23 passing and had 3 hits for Ava.
Becca Dudley was 2/2 serving and 6/8 passing; McKenzie Hall was 3/3 serving with 1 ace and 8/10 passing; Mashala Gunning had 2 ace serves and was 4/5 passing.
