Ava Cross Country Sets the Pace At Bolivar on Saturday

The Southwest Cross Country Coaches Association cross country meet was held Saturday, Sept. 7, on the campus grounds of Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar.
A huge field of 32 schools ranging in classfication size from Class 1 to Class 4 attended the meet.
No team awards were given in the varsity races. Medals were awarded to the top 10 in each classification.
Ava Running Bears showed up ready to compete. Three members of the boys’ varsity and two members of the girls’ varsity finished in the top 10 for Class 2.
There were 213 runners in boys’ varsity.  Ava sophomore Caleb Stillings ran an incredible race and finished 1st in Class 2 with an official time of 18:10 and was 25th overall.
Senior team leader Jordan Dimirsky finished in 4th place with a time of 18:58 coming in at 45th overall.
Freshmen Jacob Luebbering passed eight other runners in the last 150 meters to place 6th in Class 2 and 73 overall with a time of 19:33. Sophomore Hayden Schuster ran the 5k course in 21:49, sophomore Sage Clunn finished in 22:02, and sophomores Trevor Randolph and Brett Mitchell helped pace each other and finished in 25:25 and 25:33, respectively.
In the girls’ division, Kayla Cooper and Megan Cooper both medaled in the top 10 in Class 2.  Kayla ran a 24:47 and placed 4th in her class and 69th out of 148 total in the girls’ varsity race.  Megan placed 10th with a time of 27:36.4 with JimiLynn Raybould sprinting in with her and finishing 11th with a time of 27:36.6.  Overall they finished in the 110 and 111 positions.
Madison Schuster ran her first meet of her cross country career with a time of 31:38.
Coach Liz Kyger said, “We were ecstatic that we had done so well, with three runners in the top 10 in the boys and two runners in the top 10 for the girls!”

The team’s next meet will be held at the Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course today (Thursday), followed by West Plains on the 17th.
The 36th annual Zizzer Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday will be held at the high school/middle school campus. The schedule shows a 3:30 starting time.
