Sunday, July 21 was the eighth Sunday after Trinity. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the epistle for the day, Romans 8:12: “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die, but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live.” The theme of this passage is our responsibility to be led by the Holy Spirit and to be children of God with Christ as our elder brother and model.
After the service we had our regular potluck dinner with several fruit and vegetable salads just for the summertime. We have reconfigured the parish hall with new portable serving counters built for us by Eric Fancher and a new wall where Bishop Glen has put his big painting of our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi.
Jordan and Penelope Willard brought several photos of their recent trips to Washington, D.C. for a D.A.R. convention and their fishing trip to Alaska with other family members.
After the dinner we held our regular vestry meeting during which Laura Berthold was elected to replace Lincoln Connell as youth representative and voted Jennifer Berthold a sum of money for a trip she is to take to Korea in September as a part of a College of the Ozarks program that sends CofO students to accompany Korean War veterans; two students accompany each veteran to Korea.
