Some Bethany Baptist Church folks went to the Farmers Market again last Saturday to give out water. It was a cool morning, but several people were happy to get a cold drink of water. The gardeners had brought lots of fresh garden produce. The prices were very reasonable for some high quality products. There was quite a lot of visiting going on. Bill and Sandy Rogers suggested the Saturday morning outreach and so far it has been well received.
The church is planning another “work day” for this Thursday morning. There needs to be some painting done in addition to the usual vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning inside. There is some improvement being done on the outside as well. It does seem that work goes easier when there are a lot of people involved.
Daniel and Jenny Middlebrooks will be guests at Bethany Baptist Church, Sunday morning. There will be lunch on the grounds followed by a 1 PM service and no evening service.
Dan Stillings sang a special song accompanying himself on a guitar, before Pastor Bob Sorensen brought a message he called, “How I know God is good all the time.”
The scriptures testify about the goodness, righteousness, mercy and compassion of the Lord. God’s goodness was evident when he did not immediately destroy Adam when he sinned in the Garden of Eden, it was evident when he gave his only begotten Son as a sacrifice to pay the penalty for all sinners that have existed from Adam to the present day. God’s unfailing goodness was testified to by Jesus, who said that there is none good but God and by Jesus willingness to go to the cross to pay for the sins that he did not commit, saying, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” God’s goodness is testified to by all the New Testament writers as well as the saints since then, many of whom suffered in the flesh also.
We should show faith in the goodness of God by our trust. Trust God even when bad things happen. Things are not always, “just fine,” but we can still trust God to do the right thing when we understand and accept that God is good all the time and he makes no mistakes. We should be willing to turn everything over to the Lord, who knows and desires what is best for us.
