Daisy J. Mathews, 81

MathewsDaisyDaisy J. Mathews, 81 years, passed away on June 15, 2013 at her home with her husband, Bill, and family by her side.
Daisy was born Oct. 6, 1931 in Douglas County, Mo., to Berley and Alice (Thompson) Hancock.
Daisy was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. On Dec. 25, 1953 Daisy and Bill Mathews were united in marriage in Ava, Mo., and to this union three daughters were born.
Daisy was a Christian and attended the Ava General Baptist Church. She was a wonderful housewife and homemaker. Daisy enjoyed cooking and taking care of all her family. She loved people and had a great sense of humor. Her love and devotion to her “Bill” was evident. Wherever you saw Daisy, there was Bill. Her love will live on in her family and friends.
Daisy was preceded by her parents, a granddaughter, Melissa Whorton and two brothers, Harley and Jim Hancock.
Daisy is survived by her husband, William “Bill” D. Mathews, Ava, Mo.; three daughters and their spouses, Cathy and Carl Whorton and Linda and Dennis Turner, all of Ava, and Lisa and Chris Barnett, Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Miranda Berg, Amy Groll, Shane Turner, Alex and Evan Barnett; four great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kaitlyn Johnson, Logan Berg and Chloe Holloway; one brother, Joe Hancock, Omaha, Neb.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Daisy were held Monday, June 17, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was prior to the funeral on Monday from 1 p.m. to service time. Officiating was Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice of charity.
